Japan engineering universities offer English-taught Master’s routes, and the useful ones for a 2027 B.Tech graduate share two things: an October 2027 entry and a window you can meet from India. We have picked six that meet that test on their own published pages.
Each entry below gives the route, the window where one is published, and the rule most likely to stop an application. Every detail was checked on the university’s own site, with the date noted.

Why the October 2027 intake decides your list
A student graduating in May or June 2027 has no degree by 1 April 2027. For that student, Japan engineering universities open from October 2027, with April 2028 as the fallback.

The six Japan engineering universities
We list national and private universities together. Both sectors run strong English-taught engineering programmes.
How we chose these six
Each of these Japan engineering universities publishes an English-taught Master’s route in engineering, an autumn entry, and a selection process an applicant in India can complete. Where a university’s October 2027 window is not yet published, we say so and give the month to watch.
1. The University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Engineering
The Graduate School of Engineering lists admission dates of 1 April 2027 and 1 October 2027 in its 2027 Master’s application guidelines. A degree expected to be conferred by the day before the admission date qualifies.
Schedule B of the Regular Admission runs from 27 November to 3 December 2026, closing at 15:00 Japan time, for courses that conduct it. Confirm your course runs Schedule B before you plan around it.
2. Institute of Science Tokyo, IGP(A)
Science Tokyo’s International Graduate Program (A) admits in fall only and teaches in English, with engineering among its five theme-focused programmes. Its Fall 2027 notice, dated 9 September 2026, sets the application period from 9 September to 22 November 2026.
A faculty consent letter is due by 15 November 2026. Among Japan engineering universities, this autumn-entry window is open right now.
3. The University of Osaka, Graduate School of Engineering
The Graduate School of Engineering runs a Master’s Degree Program Conducted in English, with application materials updated in August 2026. The winter round for October 2027 entry runs from 26 October to 6 November 2026.
A change in Mechanical Engineering
October enrolment in the Mechanical Engineering division ends from academic year 2028. That makes October 2027 the last October intake there.
4. Tohoku University, IGPAS
Tohoku’s IGPAS programme states that applications will not be accepted without the consent of a faculty member. The October 2027 cycle had not been published when we last checked.
In the previous cycle the pre-application stage opened in late October, so watch the programme page from early October 2026.
5. Nagoya University, G30
Nagoya’s G30 graduate programmes state that only the October intake is available every year. That suits a 2027 graduate well among Japan engineering universities. The application fee listed in the programme documents is ¥5,000.
Selection includes an online interview, so no travel is needed at the application stage. The AY2027 window was not yet published when we checked.
6. Doshisha University, ISTC
Doshisha, a private university in Kyoto, runs the International Science and Technology Course (ISTC). Its admissions page carries guides for April 2027 and September 2027 enrolment.
For September 2027 entry, the window runs from 11 February to 9 March 2027, with results on 21 May 2027. Applicants submit three recommendation letters, and no supervisor consent is required before applying.
Doshisha waives the English test for applicants who have completed, or are expected to complete by enrolment, a Bachelor’s degree taught in English. That wording covers a final-year student.
The critical gate: supervisor consent
Most Japan engineering universities require contact with a prospective supervisor. At several, consent is a hard condition of applying.

How to approach a supervisor
Read the laboratory’s own page first: its research themes, recent papers and current students. Match two or three themes to your B.Tech project and say so plainly. A specific match reads far stronger than a general interest.

Timing your first email
Start supervisor contact well ahead of any consent deadline, since professors at Japan engineering universities may take time to reply. At Japan engineering universities with a hard consent rule, a late email can cost you the whole round.

Reading national fees
¥535,800 is the MEXT standard national rate, and universities may charge above it. Private Japan engineering universities publish their own fees each year, so confirm the figure for your year of entry.
Funding through the admission round
Some scholarships run through the university application. The MEXT University Recommendation route is chosen with the programme, so identify it when you build the shortlist.
